New to Lightning? You're about ten minutes away.
Creators on PaterNostr get paid over Lightning — near-instant bitcoin payments that work from any country, with amounts as small as a few cents. No bank paperwork, no card forms. You just need a wallet app on your phone.
1
Get a wallet
An app on your phone. Pick one from the list below — installing takes a couple of minutes.
2
Get some sats
Sats are tiny fractions of bitcoin. Many wallets sell you a small amount right in the app — the equivalent of a coffee is plenty to start.
3
Come back and subscribe
Tap Subscribe (or Zap) and we show a QR code. Scan it with your wallet — the payment settles in seconds.
Pick a wallet
All of these can pay any PaterNostr invoice. Where you live only changes how easy it is to buy sats in-app.
Wallet of Satoshi easiest start
The classic “it just works” wallet. They hold the keys for you — ideal for coffee-money amounts and your first week on Lightning.
Phoenix self-custody
You hold the keys, the app handles the plumbing. A small one-time fee when you first receive. The best step up once Lightning clicks.
Blink easy
Simple, friendly, custodial. Straightforward ways to receive your first sats.
Primal for Nostr users
Already on Nostr? Primal is a Nostr app with a wallet built in — one install covers both.
Custodial vs. self-custody — the one thing worth knowing
A custodial wallet means the company holds the bitcoin for you, like a balance in an app — the easiest start, and fine for small amounts. Self-custody means only you hold the keys — more responsibility, no one to trust. Start custodial if you're unsure and graduate later. Your PaterNostr subscriptions work identically either way.
Quick answers
What exactly is a sat?
The smallest unit of bitcoin — 100,000,000 sats make one bitcoin. Prices here are in sats so they stay small and readable: a typical subscription is a few hundred to a few thousand sats a month.
How much do I need to start?
Very little. Load the equivalent of a coffee and you can subscribe to a creator for months. There's no minimum balance and no account to fund here — the sats live in your wallet, not on PaterNostr.
What are the fees?
Lightning payments usually cost a sat or two — effectively nothing. (Buying bitcoin in the first place may carry your wallet's or exchange's usual purchase fee.)
What happens when I tap Subscribe?
We show a Lightning invoice — a QR code that's valid for 10 minutes. Scan it (or tap it on your phone) with your wallet and confirm. Payments either complete or cleanly fail; money doesn't get lost in between. If an invoice expires, you can always generate a fresh one.
Can I cancel? Do I keep what I paid for?
Subscriptions are month by month — cancel anytime and you keep access through the period you already paid for. Nothing renews without you paying again.
